How To Fix Your Apple Watch Run Slowly

You feel your Apple Watch is getting slower day-by-day. You might probably be right as with the technology devices, when the usage increases, it will slow down.

The new Apple Watch Series 2 comes with some additional features including built-in GPS, water resistant, and a dual‑core processor. However, if you own a first generation Apple Watch, you should note that you would get the similar speed if you decide to upgrade to the Series 2, as they both have the same processor and can update to the latest version of watchOS 3.

So, instead of upgrading to a newer model, you should do something with your existing Watch. A few changes to the system will make your current Apple Watch run fast again, and the speed will be better than it was. Here are solutions you can try to make your Apple Watch run faster.

Disable animations

The cool animation you see comes from your watch’s home screen. When moving around, the app icons on the outer screen get smaller, while the apps in the middle get bigger. The sizes will change after you zoom to different parts. This is great but is it really necessary?

We advised you to have the icons remain the same size for a better navigation as well as tapping. Not only does it limit the animation, but it also prevents tapping on the wrong application.

To turn off the animation on your Apple Watch’s home screen, follow these steps:

  1. Launch the Settings app
  2. Go to General > Accessibility
  3. Tap on Reduce Motion and toggle it on

Besides turning off the animation, the Reduce Motion can also remove the transition when you launch an app.

Restart your Apple Watch

When you feel your watch slow down, you should try restarting it by pressing and holding the side button until the Power off slider appears. After that, drag it to the right to shut down your Apple Watch. Then press the side button to turn it back on.

If your Apple Watch is not able to turn off, you should try a hard reset.

Update The Software

Updating from watchOS 2 to watchOS will make a big difference in performance. The device will run faster. If you have not updated your Apple Watch to the newest software version yet, you should update it.

To do this,  tap on General > Software Update.

Close Background App Refresh

This feature not only eats up a lot of your battery but also slows down your Watch. Although the Background App Refresh allows your apps to refresh in the background, it will negatively affect the system. So you should turn it off.

  • Launch the Watch app on your iPhone
  • Go to My Watch > General > Background App Refresh
  • Toggle the Background App Refresh switch to off

If you like, you can also allow a particular app to refresh in the background, so the choice is yours.

Reset All Settings

If none of these above methods works, you should make a factory reset on your Apple Watch. Doing this will delete everything and put it back to the initial state. To perform a factory reset.

  1. On your watch, head to Settings > General > Reset
  2. Tap ‘Erase All Content and Settings’

Above are some simple methods that can help you make your Apple Watch run faster. Let us know in the comment below if you find other solutions to help the Watch faster.
